Tyler Childers at Golden 1: getting back to Davis
Doors 6:30, show 7:30, and Wednesday's last departures to Davis go early. Every honest way from Davis to Golden 1 Center on Sep 30 — and home.

Tyler Childers plays Golden 1 Center on Wednesday, September 30, on the 2026 Snipe Hunt dates. The venue's listing gives doors at 6:30pm and the show at 7:30pm, at 500 David J Stern Walk in downtown Sacramento; its end stamp reads 11:59pm — the outside edge of the night, not a setlist. (Golden 1 Center)
From Davis, getting there is the easy half: I-80 east and you are in the grid. This is mostly about the other half, which nobody checks until they are standing outside at 11.
Work backwards from the clock
Before you pick how you get there, pick the last moment you can leave, and write it down. Every option below is a bet on whether the music stops before your ride home does.
September 30 is a weekday, and weekend timetables are separate tables. Read the column that matches Wednesday.
The train is quick. It just finishes early.
The Capitol Corridor is the good news and the bad news in one paragraph. Sacramento Valley Station is at 401 I Street at 5th, and Capitol Corridor's own events page puts the arena a six-minute, 0.3-mile walk away (Sports & Entertainment). The ride is barely a ride: today's timetable schedules the westbound run from Sacramento into Davis at sixteen minutes.
We are not printing a departure time: timetables move, and you may be reading this weeks out. Open the schedule, find the last westbound train to Davis on Wednesday the 30th, and hold it next to a 7:30pm start. On the current timetable it is not close — that train is gone long before an encore.
None of which is a knock on the train. Sixteen minutes to Davis is one of the genuinely good things about living here. It is a knock on the hours, and the hours are the whole subject of this post.
Yolobus 42 stops at the door, and it is tight
Yolobus's intercity loop has a stop named, literally, L & 5th (Golden 1 Center) — across the street from the arena.
- Out: Route 42B runs the loop counter-clockwise — Woodland, Davis, West Sacramento, downtown — hourly, seven days a week, picking up on campus at the UC Davis Memorial Union.
- Back: Route 42A is the same loop clockwise, so 42A is the one that carries you from L & 5th to the Memorial Union.
As published today, the last weekday 42A leaves L & 5th at 10:57pm and reaches the Memorial Union at 11:50pm (Route 42A). Hold that against a show the venue lists to 11:59. It may work. It may also mean leaving during the last song, and you will not know until you are inside. Check it again the week of the show, and plan as though you are not making it.
Driving down: the pass has a clock on it too
Golden 1 Center runs no lots of its own. It points you at pre-paid passes bought through the City of Sacramento's SacPark site, and the garages tied to the arena open two hours before the event. (Directions & Parking)
One line on that page decides your night: a pre-purchased pass is good until two hours after the event. Also from the venue — spaces are first-come, first-served, a specific garage "is subject to availability and is not guaranteed", and there is no shuttle from the downtown garages, so you walk, via 5th & J, 7th & K or 5th & L. Lot rates are not published there; they live on SacPark.
Light rail, once you're already downtown
SacRT's light rail stops sit about a block from the arena — 8th & K, 9th & K or 10th & K, depending which line you rode in on. (SacRT) None of it reaches Davis, so it is a last mile inside Sacramento, not a way home. Check SacRT's station closure page first: Gold Line modernisation work is ongoing.
Or ride with someone already going
Cars will drive Davis to downtown Sacramento that Wednesday evening and drive back afterwards, most with empty seats both ways.
That is what TAGO is for: a carpool for students. Sign in with your .edu email, say where
you are going, and see who else is going the same way. No fleet and no dispatcher — students with
a car and students without one, sharing the cost of a trip that was already happening.
Two things that matter on a school night:
The way back is planned with the way out. For events and places the return leg is part of the same plan, settled in the afternoon, not at 11:40 on David J Stern Walk with one bar of signal.
Your share has a ceiling. What a rider contributes can never exceed the IRS standard mileage rate for the day of the trip — a legal cap on cost-sharing, enforced in the code behind every trip rather than promised in an ad. Past the first eight miles the per-mile rate eases down. How the cost of a ride gets split walks through it.
Nobody can tell you a car will be there. Whether one exists depends entirely on who is going that night, which is why posting early beats searching late. The Tyler Childers page on TAGO shows how many people are going; routes and names stay private until you sign in with your .edu.
Before you leave the house
- Bags. Clutches and wallets smaller than 8" x 6" x 1", subject to inspection; medical and parental bags are allowed but go through X-ray screening. (Golden 1 Center) A campus day pack is not getting in, and there is nowhere to put it.
- Look up Wednesday's last westbound train and the last 42A. Write both down.
- If either lands before the show does, you need a car in the plan — a decision for today, not for 11pm.
- Driving? Buy the SacPark pass ahead; it expires two hours after the event.
- Agree the meeting point in advance. All three pedestrian routes empty at once.
