Money

Is it free?

Joining, posting, and searching are free. You only ever pay your share of a trip you take.

How much does it cost?

Your share is capped at the federal mileage rate, and it drops as more riders join.

Do drivers make money?

No. Drivers recover part of what the trip costs them. TAGO is cost-sharing, not a job.

What does TAGO charge?

Nothing. No commission, no booking fee.

How do you make money then?

Not from your trip. Businesses at the other end pay to reach people already heading their way — the rental shop in Tahoe, the restaurant near the venue. Some of them subsidize trips outright, so the ride costs riders less. We also work directly with companies and universities.

Safety

Is it safe?

Every account is verified with a university email, trips start with a scan, and you choose who can follow along.

What are the stars?

Every trip ends with both people rating each other, so you can see someone's rating before you commit.

What if my driver cancels?

You'll know right away, and we'll look for another match on your route. Cancelling repeatedly affects a person's rating — that's part of why ratings exist.

What if I need a wheelchair-accessible car?

Drivers list what their vehicle has so you can see before you commit. Caregivers ride free.

Practical

Do I need a .edu email?

To ride or drive today, yes. Join the waitlist and we'll tell you the moment that changes.

Isn't this competing with public transit?

The opposite. We connect to it. If a driver's route passes a station that gets you where you're going, we suggest the handoff — they drop you there and you take the train on. You can meet a driver at a station too. Transit is good at the long middle; we cover the ends.

Can I get a ride back?

For events and places, yes — the return is planned along with the trip out. For your own routes, post the trip back the same way you posted the first one.

Is there an Android app?

Not yet. Join the waitlist and we'll tell you the day it lands.

Which cities?

Sacramento, the Bay Area, and Southern California.

What if nobody's going my way?

Post your trip. Drivers see it, and we'll keep looking after you close the app.
