Matt Rife in Sacramento: a Sunday night from Davis
Doors 6pm, show 7pm, and Sunday runs on the weekend timetable. Every honest way from Davis to Golden 1 Center on Oct 11 — and the stop that moves.

Matt Rife plays Golden 1 Center on Sunday, October 11. The venue's own listing puts doors at 6:00pm and the show at 7:00pm, at 500 David J Stern Walk in downtown Sacramento. (Golden 1 Center)
Getting there from Davis is the easy half — I-80 east and you are in the grid. The other half is worth reading first, because Sunday is the night the region's timetables switch to their short column.
Sunday is its own timetable
Not the weekday one running later. The train and the bus each publish separate weekend tables. Read the weekday column, assume it holds on the 11th, and you will be wrong twice — once pleasantly, once not.
The train is fast, and it finishes early
The Capitol Corridor runs between Davis and Sacramento Valley Station at 401 I Street at 5th — a scheduled sixteen minutes — and Capitol Corridor's own venue page calls the arena "an easy 6-minute walk (0.3 miles) from the Sacramento Station" (Sports & Entertainment).
The catch is in the tables. On the schedule in force today, the Weekend Westbound table lists eleven trains where the weekday table lists fifteen, and its last departure from Sacramento to Davis is earlier than the weekday one (Capitol Corridor). No time here, because the minute does not change the decision: as published, the last weekend departure is long gone before a 7:00pm show lets out. Read the Weekend Westbound table rather than the weekday one, find the last departure on Sunday the 11th, and hold it against your night.
None of which is a knock on the train — sixteen minutes to Davis is one of the genuinely good things about living here. It is a knock on the hours.
The bus, surprisingly, does not thin out
Yolobus runs its intercity loop both ways: Route 42B counter-clockwise out through Davis and West Sacramento into downtown, and Route 42A clockwise — the one that carries you home. 42A has a stop named, literally, L & 5th (Golden 1 Center).
42A publishes three tables — Weekdays, Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays — and as published today they run the same times. As published on 13 September 2026, the last Sunday departure from L & 5th is 10:57pm, reaching the UC Davis Memorial Union at 11:50pm (Route 42A). Hold that against a show that started at seven. It is the one option Sunday does not punish.
Check it again the week of the show, and treat it as a bus you cannot miss: if it goes without you, nothing else is coming.
One catch: that stop moves on event nights
SacRT lists bus stop closures during Golden 1 Center events, and one of them is the L St at 5th St stop — "Board at L St at 9th." (SacRT) That is the corner the Yolobus timetable names. Four blocks up L Street, in the dark, with an arena emptying behind you. Put the walk in your maths, and find the boarding point on your way in.
Driving: the pass has a clock on it too
Golden 1 Center runs no lots of its own. It points you at pre-paid passes through the City of Sacramento's SacPark site, and the garages tied to the arena open two hours before the event. One line decides your night: a pre-purchased pass is good until two hours after the event. Spaces are first-come, first-served, a specific garage "is subject to availability and is not guaranteed", and there is no shuttle — you walk in via 5th & J, 7th & K or 5th & L. (Directions & Parking) Rates live on SacPark, not there.
Light rail, inside Sacramento only
SacRT's light rail stops sit about a block from the arena — 8th & K, 9th & K or 10th & K, depending which line you rode in on (SacRT). None of it reaches Davis, so it is a last mile inside the city, not a way home.
Or go with someone already going
Cars will drive Davis to downtown Sacramento that Sunday evening and back afterwards, most of them with empty seats both ways.
That is what TAGO is for: a carpool for students. Sign in with your .edu email, say
where you are going, and see who else is going the same way. No fleet, no dispatcher —
students with a car and students without one, sharing the cost of a trip that was already
happening.
Two things that matter on a Sunday:
The way back is planned with the way out. For events and places the return leg is part of the same plan, settled in the afternoon, not at 10:45pm on David J Stern Walk while you decide whether to run four blocks for a bus.
Your share has a ceiling. What a rider contributes can never exceed the IRS standard mileage rate for the day of the trip — a legal cap on cost-sharing, enforced in the code behind every trip rather than promised in an ad. How ride costs split walks through it.
Nobody can tell you a car will be there. Whether one exists depends on who is going that night, which is why posting early beats searching late. The Matt Rife at Golden 1 on TAGO page shows how many people are going; routes and names stay private until you sign in with your .edu.
Before Sunday
- Read the weekend column, not the weekday one. Train and bus both publish separate tables.
- Write down two times: the last Sunday westbound train, and the last 42A out of downtown.
- Check where 42A boards that night — L & 9th rather than L & 5th, if the event-night closure holds.
- If neither lands after the show, you need a car in the plan. That is a decision for this week, not for 10:45pm.
- Bags: clutches and wallets smaller than 8" x 6" x 1", subject to inspection; medical and parental bags go through X-ray screening (Golden 1 Center). A campus day pack is not getting in, and there is nowhere to leave it.
